WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
On visiting the Tsunami affected villages the EMOS women's team came across the needs of women. Most of the families they visited for counseling were living on the verge of despair as these had no source of income and no work in sight. Women were the most distraught, because the men folk became drunkards in their frustration. Many women expressed the difficulty they face as they bore the burden of their families. They seek help to earn some money to look after their families.
Finding the dire need of these women, ICRO steps into the work of women empowerment. This involves providing training, capital and some form of initial management expertise. The EMOS women's team is finding out women with the drive to train. It will provide capital for tailoring units, food processing, small shops, milk vending and few other efforts. The most important principle of this effort is to find out the need expressed by the women themselves. In no way ICRO suggests any trade. ICRO will provide the capital, arrange micro credit from local banks, tools, like sewing machines, refrigerators etc., and help to study the economic feasibility of the projects.
