TSUNAMI REHABILITATION
This is the most urgent and important work ICRO is involved in. Tsunami victims are housed in temporary shelters in the eastern coastal belt of Tamilnadu. Although the victims received immediate relief through various government and non-governmental agencies, rehabilitation in the form of trauma counseling, assistance in rebuilding lives and trade, and the empowerment of women is done very little. ICRO realized the need and stepped into the vacuum. Now ICRO is involved in the training of local counselors, distribution of trade tools like kattamarans and fishing nets, special coaching centers for school children with evening meals, distribution of school bags and umbrellas, and the empowerment of women through training in new trades (such as tailoring, fishing net making, food processing etc.), and entrepreneurship. In all these ICRO is really fulfilling its God given mission of building up individuals and communities.
